Kim is very nice and very helpful. During my lessons she creates a positive atmosphere where I don't feel pressured to be perfect at playing. She is very helpful with tips and tricks to better my playing as well as me as a musician overall.

When I first came to Kim Finnigan for violin lessons, I was at a point in my musical career where I wanted to quit playing the violin all together. I had had a run of bad teachers, and I had lost my passion for music. I just didn't want to be a violinist any more. But Kim changed all that for me.

During the one year I was able to spend with her, she reminded me how much fun music can be. Her teaching style was exactly what I needed. She introduced me to new ways of learning and playing music. Quite frankly, she taught me what it means to be a "musician."

Now, I love playing the violin! I even got a music scholarship for the college I am attending, and am an active member of the college string ensemble. Kim was the best violin teacher I ever had. I would definitely highly recommend her as a teacher!

I played the violin for close to a decade, and then gave it up when I went to college. I didn't regret the decision at the time-I had tremendous issues with my technique, and felt that I could not improve as a player at that point. After a decade away from my instrument, my husband challenged me to take up lessons again. I feel immensely lucky to have found Kim.

Through her help, I have discovered that I can improve my technique, as she focuses very strongly on technical issues, and gives clear instructions that are tailored to the physical mechanics of each of her students.

Since I am an adult student with a full time job, she has helped me to practice "smarter" not harder, so that I can maximize the efficiency of my practice sessions.

Finally, I find that her experience and musical knowledge have both breadth and depth; I have never asked a question that she has not been able to answer thoroughly. My only regret is that I didn't have a chance to work with her sooner.

Kim is a fabulous violin instructor. As an educator myself I tend to be more critical of the professionals who teach my children. Kim speaks to them as mature students, sets her expectations a with care and obvious knowledge (for example, she told them that she was excited to find their areas of weakness because it meant they had good things to focus on and work together, rather chastising them for failing) and encourages them to take ownership of their musicianship.

She also spoke well of their previous teachers, highlighting what they learned well from them, and also highlighting her differences and then discussing why she does things the way she does. I find this to be incredibly professional as we have a had other instructors who did exactly the opposite, and in the process undermined my children's confidence in the work that they had done elsewhere. She re-ordered her schedule to accommodate having the girls the same night, and has been responsive to any and all questions they or I have. I would recommend her without hesitation, and I am so thankful to have found her.
